I looked at the thermometer when I came back in and it was actually about 19°F. This ’78 550 uses a 201 cubic inch 3-cylinder diesel with a manifld heater for cold start assist. The heater drips diesel fuel onto a resistance element in the intake manifold, igniting the fuel and waming the manifold. In very cold weather, the battery voltage is low enough that the fuel won’t light off, so I just plug it in when I need it to start in the winter.

I have a ford diesel backhoe its a 60 ish model and one of the rams that moved the bucket on the back side to side broke a while back and we never fixed it so we started up the backhoe and moved it to the back we turned it of and took off the bucket and arm assembly the entire unit including the seat and controls for the backhoe part. so after we took it off we tried to start it and it wouldnt start we worked on it for about a week and gave up because it wouldn’t start. Its now been 3 to 4 years and we started to work on it and it still wont start what can we do? any help will be appreciated

i want serious answers it 40 some odd years old we took of the back and it wont start

Just quit running replaced filters,had injector pump rebuilt still not running what to check next

of when you turn the key to start it the starter engages and after a few seconds it starts smoking does this mean it needs to be replaced ? and the battery comes out of another tractor and its starter dont smoke
